All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others

The above is from George Orwell, Animal Farm. Although I have never actually seen a pig sleep in a bed, nevertheless, I find the above thought very frightening. Back to survival, I've been trying to figure out how we survived before automated coin counting machines, and I remembered that we had tokens.  Before token, of course, there were wizards and dragons and if you knew a decent wizard, you really didn't need public transportation.

Survival and control

Looking back at various periods of the past, we can ask the fairly simple question of how did we survive that.  For example, consider the period of 1950 through 1970 or 1960 through 1980 or 1980 through 2000.  All these time periods had a  fair share of turbulence, and yet some how we arrived at the end. Some might suggests it was our social structures, and basics like some people call culture.  Some might have alternative suggestions.  Still some would say, " it's complicated ".... But all these notions of structure imply by their nature some issue of control. So examine control.  Start with something simple like a light switch.  The switch is a control mechanism, and the operator requires some feedback, like, did the light go on?  If not, well, there are a sequence of events that go on from that point.  So at the heart of it is who is really in control?  The light, the switch, or the operator?  Other examples of controls are...

Futurists, humanism, and something like practicality

So some futurists that come to mind: Asimov, Roddenberry, Huxley, Orwell, Herbert, Dick, Lucas , a lot of Science Fiction, sometimes full of fear , but also hope sometimes. ** Brave_New_World      Star_Wars        Nineteen_Eighty-Four ** I think many of these ideas are connected through  the idea of humanism.  I guess there is a connection between the idea of --- some kind of --- future and human beings.  Of course,  there is quite a variety of science fiction " prognostication " and some may propose a " future " without human beings.  You must admit the idea of a future without humans might be a little more difficult to imagine, or for sure, write about. Of course, individually we have to deal with this notion of the future because it is imminent , and pretty much we always have to deal with it the best we can.   Rarely do we deal with it , like 30 years from now.  Sometimes even a couple of days is diffi...

Power and economy

Well, first, a little about economy, and I anticipate this might be a bit rough.   I have mentioned that I believe there is a connection to what is often referred to as the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics and economy.   So economy represents what you might call a collection of exchanges.  We also might be able to distinguish complexity of exchanges, because they can be from 1 to multiple.  Next, the issue is the benefit of the exchange which for each connection can have  various different values.  Based on that it  seems clear to me that this configuration represents some type of multi-dimensional Hilbert space.  My guess is that the behavior of transactions might resemble in some respects the kind of relationship that exists among the atomic constituents of the periodic table. Moving on to power.  Power is usually and perhaps correctly connected to energy, but for me the association with work is more clear than...

Earth, knowledge, and maybe why?

Starting with knowledge, I sometimes view knowledge as  a relationship.  Knowledge can be viewed in an objective way as well. As a relationship,  to a great degree, it is between a teacher and a student, and may involve a great deal more than the subject matter under consideration. To be more clear, there is a lot more messaging, on various levels, that goes on in that relationship. Back to Earth/earth, however you want to think about that, my first subjective thought is, it is pretty big.  I think some might like it bigger and some smaller, but to me it seems pretty big.  Lots of variety, in the earth and lots of variety in our response to it.  But most importantly, I think the earth has been  very consistent and maybe persistent, in the role of teacher.  And thus it has been  for us, an over whelming source of knowledge.   As most relationships go, there has to be a two way commitment.  The teacher must have a commitme...

Here

We do have have very persistent idea about what here means.  But when we look at the bigger picture of things that notion becomes a bit more vague.  Most of what follows comes from:     how-fast-is-earth-moving   To summarize:   rotational speed:  The cosine of 45 is 0.707, so the spin speed at 45 degrees is roughly 0.707 x 1037 = 733 mph (1,180 km/h).   around the sun: Since speed is equal to the distance traveled over the time taken, Earth's speed is calculated by dividing 584 million miles (940 million km) by 365.25 days and dividing that result by 24 hours to get miles per hour or km per hour. So, Earth travels about 1.6 million miles (2.6 million km) a day, or 66,627 mph (107,226 km/h).   motion in the galaxy:   The sun and the solar system appear to be moving at 200 kilometers per second , or at an average speed of 448,000 mph (720,000 km/h).   To some up, the idea of " here " is a bit more blurry in the bigg...
