Earth, knowledge, and maybe why?
Starting with knowledge, I sometimes view knowledge as
a relationship. Knowledge can be viewed in an objective way as well.
As a relationship, to a great degree, it is between a teacher and a student,
and may involve a great deal more than the subject matter under consideration.
To be more clear, there is a lot more messaging, on various levels, that goes on
in that relationship.
Back to Earth/earth, however you want to think about that, my first subjective
thought is, it is pretty big. I think some might like it bigger and some smaller,
but to me it seems pretty big. Lots of variety, in the earth and lots of variety
in our response to it. But most importantly, I think the earth has been very
consistent and maybe persistent, in the role of teacher. And thus it has been
for us, an over whelming source of knowledge.
As most relationships go, there has to be a two way commitment.
The teacher must have a commitment to the student, a responsibility, and
likewise the student to the teacher. For the student, two important tools
in this relationship might be humility and respect, both similar attributes
in some ways. Often, I think, that respect is a key element in that more
marvelous experience we often speak of as love.
So the point is, it is kind of hard to get your head around,
but we need to strive for this student / teacher relationship
with the earth, as big and maybe overwhelming as that might seem.
It can be thought of,mostly, like a goal, or objective, but I think an
important element of that relationship between ourselves and the earth, is
our relationship to each other. There may be one more element,
the kind of why, that I am not completely able to express, but may be,
in part, a mystery of what we call love.
