And so,
I have often been concerned with the very confusing relationship between what
is called " conservative " and the alternative " liberal ". I can't say very much
about what this relationship is exactly. That is not at all clear in my mind
but I thought I might address another issue which is communism and
capitalism.
And so, when I was younger, when I first read " I Robot ", I had a pretty clear
memory of being extremely frightened about communists because they
had big bombs and they wanted to drop them, on well, me, and my city, and
I actually did not know clearly what a " communist " was, although I did read
something about that in the newspaper.
And of course when I got a little bit older, we fought a war about it. A very
disturbing war, that many people today would just as soon forget. At that
time, I knew a bit more about it, but I could not say I understood it. And
honestly today, pretty much the same thing.
Of course, when I think about it , the - what is not communist -, meaning
capitalist, I really don't understand that much better. Obviously it has
something to do with " capital " which is not very well defined, in my
mind.
Now, at this point in my life, I just try not to think about it all that much,
because for me these " relationships ", these very stark distinctions about
how to think about things, how to view things ... although they may have
important meanings at some level, really, I am not sure what they do mean.
Of course we still have history. What history really points out is --- do
onto others --- usually worse than they might want to do to you.
Of course, we never really know, what they might want to do.
Sometimes, I think that , learning something from history could
be helpful.
